Aspö is one of the larger islands surrounding the UNESCO World Heritage city of Karlskrona. From the sea, the approach to the city is flanked by two historic fortifications: on the starboard side lies Kungsholms Fort, and on Aspö, the impressive Drottningskär Citadel. Right next to the citadel is the Lökanabben guest harbour.

Aspö boasts beautiful nature and a rich history. Around 500 people live on the island year-round, but the population increases significantly during the summer. There is no fixed link to the mainland, but car ferries run regularly to central Karlskrona. The journey takes 25 minutes and is free of charge. The island has a well-stocked ICA grocery store within walking distance from Lökanabben guest harbour, and Nina’s Thai Food is located along the way. There are several places to buy coffee and ice cream.

This scenic island attracts visitors with its forests, meadows, swimming cliffs, and sandy beaches, making it a perfect destination for outdoor activities, swimming, and fishing. There are also facilities for playing tennis and padel near the island’s school, and a gym near the ferry terminal.

Aspö is a source of inspiration for many artists and has a vibrant music and cultural scene with various events throughout the year. Exploring the island by bicycle is popular thanks to its well-developed cycle paths.

For those wishing to stay overnight, the island offers hostels and cottages for rent. A former pilot tower has been transformed into an archipelago hotel offering stunning views over the archipelago and the sea.

Among the island’s notable sights are Drottningskär Citadel, part of the UNESCO World Heritage, and a museum dedicated to mobile coastal artillery, featuring interesting exhibitions.

Aspö Church in Ryd, on the island’s western side, is a beautiful neo-Gothic red-brick building. The archipelago village of Ryd, with its harbour in Djupvik, is also worth exploring—though note that there are no guest berths there.
